WHEN TO HIRE A COACH

As a communication coach and mindset trainer, I think everyone should hire a coach. However, if you want to get the most out of your coaching experience, you want to make sure you are truly ready to hire that coach.

It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of hiring someone to guide you to your next level, but if you are going to make an investment into a coaching program, make sure you are ready.

“But April,” you are thinking, “how do I know when I should hire a coach?” I’m so glad you asked!

If you are hustling and busting your rear to make progress toward your goals, but the harder you try, the farther away those goals seem, it might be time to hire a coach.

If you are at the limit of what you can teach yourself, or learn from the interwebs, it might be time to hire a coach.

If you have lofty goals and need an unbiased accountability partner to help you reach them, it is definitely time to hire a coach!

There are numerous points at which it is beneficial, maybe even critical, to your success that you hire a coach. Having someone there to guide you through a process, hold you accountable, or teach you invaluable skills can be just the catalyst you need to help you reach whatever it is you are striving for.

To help you know if the time is right for you to hire a coach, read on! Here are 4 ways to know you might be ready to hire a coach!

1. You are self-taught – There is nothing wrong with being self-taught. In fact, diving right into something and doing the research to learn a skill is very valuable experience. However, you can only learn so much on your own, especially if you are jumping into a new industry or career field you have never worked in before. Once you learn what you can on your own, hiring someone with more experience in that field is the next logical (and most beneficial) step.

2. You struggle to keep yourself accountable – I have been this person. I have been the one that says on January 1st that I will stick to that new training plan, or I will reach this goal…and by February 1st it’s like those goals never existed. It is hard to stay accountable to ourselves. Some people can do it very well but most of us struggle. Hiring a coach to help keep you on track can help you accomplish your goals. More importantly, they can help you adjust your plan to reach those goals when life gets in the way, or things don’t go exactly as planned. 

3. You aren’t sure what to do next – You may have your end goal in mind, but you aren’t sure what steps to take to get there. Maybe you have your whole business framework laid out, but you aren’t very good at sales and marketing. Maybe you have a killer business, but you want to scale it or take it in a different direction. Hiring a coach that can help you make a business plan or learn a specific skill could be just what you need!

4. You’re looking for more – This is a big one. Many people think “well I have a profitable business, so I don’t need to hire a coach.” WRONG! Ask any of the most successful business owners out there and they will tell you the same thing: they have hired a coach to help them get where they are. You can have a profitable business and still want more out of it. Maybe you want greater profits, or maybe you are making enough profit to pay yourself and any employees a nice wage, but you want to be able to donate to charities through your business, or maybe you want to be able to provide benefits and insurance to your employees where you haven’t been able to in the past. Doing these things requires you to level-up and that requires guidance from a coach that can get you where you want to be!

Only you can know if you are truly ready to hire a coach to help you reach your goals. I hope this article helps you determine if YOU are ready make that investment!
